Sexual Health- Chlamydia and Gonorrhea

What you need to know

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are bacteria that infects the mucous membranes of the the urethra, cervix,
rectum, and pharynx (throat).

  • Spread via oral, anal, vaginal sex without use of a condom.
  • Can cause sore throat, swollen glands/lymph nodes, abnormal vaginal and penile discharge, lower abdomen pain. pelvic pain, testicular pain, and pain with urination
  • The most common reportable STIs.*
  • 75% of those infected present with no symptoms, especially females
  • Testing: urine or penile/vaginal swab
  • Treatment: prescribed antibiotics
    • All unprotected sexual partner(s) should to be tested for other STIs and treated for chlamydia and gonorrhea, regardless if they have symptoms.
